I like his face, but not the rest of the painting. Come to think of it, I have a number of pieces like this. I recently talked to a friend who has a fantastic art collection. They have one particular painting in their house, which I've always loved of a pier with a crabbing boat in the distance. It's a very unusual format though, and I asked them how it came to be. Apparently it was from a much larger canvas of a famous local painter. This one area, the pier, didn't fit into his composition and was driving him crazy, so he just took a box cutter to it and threw it out. They dove in and framed it. And it looks just fine on it's own. So perhaps there are paintings to be found in paintings?
